Who We Are

The Global Bag Ladies project exists to help African women have a job and therefore an income to provide for their children. The women are making cloth bags out of very colorful African fabric, each one unique and handmade. The bags are then sold in the west with all proceeds being returned to the women in Africa. With the income the women are making from the sale of their bags they are able to feed their children and pay for school fees. Many of these women are widows raising their own children and orphans left behind by family members who have died. Some of the women are HIV+ and want to provide for their families as long as possible. All the women work together as a team caring for each other. Jewelry made from paper beads is another project the women have added to their products. The paper beads also embellish the GBL bags. Check out the Jewelry page to see the beautiful work done by these African women.
